Strategies for Effective Utilization of Hybrid Approaches for Improve Instruction in Office Technology and Management (OTM) In Public Tertiary Institutions in South East, Nigeria (Published)

This study was carried out to investigate strategies for effective utilization of hybrid instructional approaches in Office Technology and Management (OTM) in public tertiary institutions in South East, Nigeria. The study answered two (2) research questions which were raised based on two (2) variables. Two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey research design and the study area was South East geo-political zone of Nigeria. The population of the study consisted of two hundred and sixty-eight (268) business educators employed under Business Education Department of public tertiary institutions in South-East Geopolitical zone, Nigeria. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled “Strategies for effective utilization of hybrid instructional approaches in office technology and management questionnaire (SEUHIAOTMQ)” with 18 items. The instrument was validated by three experts, two in business education and one in science education. Reliability of the instrument was determined through pilot test using Cronbach Alpha Reliability Statistical Tool. The analysis yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.85. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while independent t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed that utilization of flipped model and rotational teaching strategies can enhance effective teaching of Office Technology and Management (OTM) in public tertiary institutions. The study also revealed that gender and years of experiences did not affect the opinion of business educators’ opinion on strategies for effective utilization of hybrid or blended instructional approaches in Office Technology and Management (OTM) in public tertiary institutions in South East, Nigeria. The implication of the findings was that that every business educator should attend regular in-service education so as to keep abreast of current and future innovations in teaching. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that management of public tertiary institutions in South East, Nigeria should from time to time train business educators on emerging technologies which can be adopted for hybrid instructional approaches in public tertiary institutions.

An Assessment of the Implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Programme in Delta State: Implication for Facilities and Infrastructure (Published)

This paper examined the level of implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) program in Delta State of Nigeria. The study used a descriptive survey to assess the views of UBE teachers and staff on the successful implementation of the UBE Program in Delta State. The study population includes all UBE teachers and staff in the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta Province. The sample size was 240 teachers and 120 UBE staff. The tool used in data collection was a questionnaire. The tool was certified by testing experts and a reliability coefficient of 0.82 was obtained. Two research questions and two hypotheses were used. The research questions were analyzed using central points while the hypothetical hypotheses were analyzed using the chi-square table. The significance level was set at 0.05. The study revealed that the UBE Program was poorly implemented in Delta State and inadequate resources and infrastructure. It was recommended, among other things, that the State Government should provide all the resources and infrastructure required for the successful implementation of the UBE Program in Delta State, to be done.

Impediments to Effective Improvisation of Instructional Materials for Teaching Electrical Installation Works In Ebonyi State Technical Colleges (Published)

This study investigated the impediments to effective improvisation of instructional materials for teaching Electrical Installation Works (EIW) in Ebonyi State Technical Colleges. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. Survey research design was adopted for the study with a population of 192. Sampling was not carried out because the population was manageable. Thirty item structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Three experts established the face validity of the instrument while 0.95 was its reliability coefficient obtained through test-re-test method with Pearson Product Moment Correlation to ensure its measures of stability. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while students t-test statistic was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed thirteen critical impediments resulting from EIW teachers’ characteristics and seventeen critical impediments due to environmental and situation forces surrounding EIW programme implementation. It was then recommended that Ebonyi State Government should ameliorate these impediments urgently to forestall their consequences.
