The population of the study comprised 952 registered library users from three selected universities in the study area during 2017/2018 academic session.  Questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using Mean and Standard Deviation. The hypothesis was tested using simple linear regression and multiple regression analyses respectively.  The regression model produced a regression coefficient of R=.431, which revealed that there is a strong positive relationship between knowledge on the use of Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and utilization of library resources. The findings further revealed that knowledge on the use of OPAC is relatively low in the universities studied. It was recommended that library program currently being taught in Nigerian universities should be reviewed and taken into cognizance the important of information literacy skills required by students to enhance them access print/digital content of the library.

Gender Influence on the Use of Information and Communication Technology by Lecturers in Library Schools in South-East and South-South Zones of Nigeria (Published)

The general purpose of the study is to determine the gender influence on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by lecturers in library schools in South-East and South-South Zones of Nigeria. The study covers the entire population of 162 lecturers in library schools in South-East and South-South zones of Nigeria. 145 copies of the questionnaire were completed and returned for analysis representing 89.5%. The result of the finding shows that both male and female lecturers use ICT. This is evident to the fact that lecturers whose gender makes them appreciate the use of ICT had mean value of 3.0. Information Search Strategies as Correlate of Information Resource Utilization in Academic Libraries (Published)

The study investigated the influence of knowledge of information search strategies on the use of library resources by undergraduate students in federal universities in South-South, zone, Nigeria. The sampled population comprised of 952 registered library users from 3 selected universities in the zone in 2017/2018 academic session. Survey research design method was employed using a structured questionnaire to collect data. Data collected was analysed using mean and standard deviation. The hypothesis was tested using simple linear regression. The regression model produced a regression coefficient of R = .405 which shows that there is a significant positive relationship between knowledge of information search strategies and utilization of library resources. The study equally revealed a relatively low knowledge of information search strategies by undergraduates in the universities investigated. It was recommended among others that libraries should intensify the teaching of information literacy skills, paying particular attention to information search strategies. Building Institutional Repository: Knowledge Management, Content, Understanding of Key Issues and the Librarians Role (Published)

Institutional Repositories (IRs) are increasingly becoming crucial library resources, and more use of digitized material is fundamental in building sustainable IRs. With a series of universities and research sites distributed throughout the continent, a lot of researchwhich requires preservation is obviously carried out in the institutions. However, a majority of the research generated from these institutions ends up in various libraries which are hardly accessed by learners. As such, many African scholars rely greatly on information from developed nations and reduce Africa to just a consumer of information, rather than a source, hence building an accessible IR allows the display of the works of scholars to the broader community and considerably assists in the advancement of an institution and its outreach. The successful establishment of an institutional repository needs careful arrangements and enthusiasm from the entire institutional community such as students, faculty members and academic staff.  Critical decisions have to be made before making any designs and redesigns on IRs such as the funds, staff, technology, metadata, content, building operations and successful management and running of the IRs. This paper explores knowledge management in terms of software and the evolution of how knowledge is managed, the inclusion process of content through structured content organization and modular content publishing, issues of IRs in Nigerian Universities, and the roles of the librarian in building institutional repositories.

The Effect of Librarians’ Knowledge and Funding on Preservation and Conservation Practices in Public University Libraries in Nigeria (Published)

Librarians down the ages have been charged with the responsibility of managing information resources and the library users. One of the management practices in the library is preservation and conservation of library resources which is aimed at ensuring the longevity of the library resources. This is a critical concern at this period of dwindling budgetary allocation to public universities where subtle fund is release to the library for the purchase of resources and therefore little or no chance should be given to deterioration. This study therefore investigates some of the key preservation and conservation practices in public universities in Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 183 respondents. Questionnaire was used for data collection and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The finding revealed that the knowledge level shown by librarians towards the preservation and conservation of information materials was relatively high and the level of training for staff and funding of conservation and preservation practices in the selected university libraries has improved greatly when compared with previous studies of conservation and preservation. The study recommends that the library management should maintain and improve on the pace of funding and training of staff on preservation and conservation practices in public university in Nigeria.
