Teachers’ Readiness for Information and Communication Technology in Teaching of Biology in Secondary Schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria (Published)
This study investigates the readiness of teachers for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) integration in the teaching of Biology in secondary schools within Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. The research aims to assess students’ performance in Biology, examine the availability and utilization of ICT for teaching Biology, and explore the potential influence of ICT on students’ performance. A descriptive survey design was employed, with data collected from 10 Biology teachers and 90 students across five secondary schools in Emure-Ekiti. The research instruments, Information and Technology Equipment Checklist (ITEC) and Biology Performance Inventory (BPI), were used to gather data on ICT availability, utilization, and students’ performance in Biology. The study revealed a low level of availability and utilization of ICT facilities in the sampled schools. However, the level of students’ performance in Biology was found to be moderate. The findings suggest that the availability and extent of ICT utilization have a significant impact on students’ performance in Biology. Recommendations include government intervention to provide ICT facilities in secondary schools, enforcement of ICT utilization through inspectorate departments, and active engagement of Biology teachers in incorporating ICT tools in their teaching methods.

Use of ICT Tools for Marketing Library Services in Selected University Libraries in Oyo State Nigeria (Published)
This study examined and found ICT tools for marketing library services within selected university libraries in Oyo State, Nigeria; University of Ibadan, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso, and Ajayi Crowther Oyo. One hundred twenty (120) questionnaires were distributed for administration but only one hundred and ten (110) questionnaires were returned; representing 91.7%, and were found useful for this study. The statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the returned questionnaires. The data was analyzed using frequency tables, simple percentages, and a chi-square test for dependent and independent variables. The study discovered that internet facilities, videoconferencing, email, social media, telephone, OPAC and websites were available for marketing library services, with radio and television having lowest availability. Reservation, renewal, current awareness and online access to library database were library services rendered which accounted for the highest percentage of respondents. The findings also show that marketing library services helps promote the library profession. However, with all the benefits inherent in having market library services, there are still a lot of problems militating against developing good market strategies in the library, such as inadequate funding and poor infrastructure (ICT tools). In order to achieve effective and efficient marketing of library services, adequate attention must be given to the strategies and recommendations given in the study.

Citation: Ijeoma Irene Bernard., Doris Chinyere Obiano and Chioma Esther Osuji (2022) Perceived Constraints to the Utilization of ICT Facilities in Selected University Libraries in Imo State, Nigeria, International Journal of Library and Information Science Studies, Vol.8, No.1, pp.33-38
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to ascertain the challenges of utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities in two selected University Libraries in Imo State. A sample size of sixty (60) library staff from the two selected University Libraries was used. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The results showed that the major constraints faced in use of ICT tools include epileptic power supply, lack of access to ICT facilities and lack of adequate office/accomodation. From the above findings, the study recommended that the institutions should go ahead to acquire more current and relevant ICT facilities that are not yet available. That the staff should be given free access to the facilities and provide adequate office space for operations. There should be regular training of staff on ICT both in-house and otherwise so that staff will be more equipped to use the facilities for enhancement.

Level of Availability and Utilization of Information and Communication Technology Facilities by Students: A Case Study of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State Nigeria (Published)
This paper is an attempt to evaluate the availability and utilization of Information and Communication (ICT) facilities by students in Federal Polytechnic Library, and also challenges the academic library faces in the area of adoption and utilization of ICT in their service delivery. Questionnaire survey approach was adopted. Primary data were collected with the aid of a four point likert scale questionnaire. Questionnaires were administered to Students of the study area. The Population for the Students at Federal Polytechnic Nekede is 870 which was obtained from the Universities’ Information and Communication Technology block (ICT, 2017). The sample size is 290. The sampling technique used here is stratified simple random. To guarantee the reliability of the instrument, it was administered on ten(10)participants out of the envisaged population of the study. A test-retest reliability method of two weeks interval was conducted, response obtained were subjected to Pearson Product Moment Correlation method and a reliability co-efficient of 0.78 was obtained. To analyze data on the research questions of the study the researcher used descriptive statistical mean. The hypothesis was tested using the chi-square (x2) which is a statistical tool to test hypothesis about the relationship between means of groups. It was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that scanning machines, printer, CD-ROM, Computer, Flash Drives, Land Area Network (LAN) and Inverter were available but few. Also the majority of the students indicated that they use ICT to retrieve information (3.1), make research(3.1), disseminate information (3.0) chat with friends (3.1) and download files (3.0). Challenges such as unreliable telecommunication network (3.3) insecurity in the library (3.3) epileptic power supply (3.3) unreliable internet (3.0) and high cost of ICT hardware/software were identified as major challenges of availability and utilization of ICT in the school’s academic library. It was recommended however that these challenges be looked into both by the institution and government in order to address the challenges.

Demographic Factors Affecting ICT Utilisation by Undergraduate Students in Some Selected Universities in Nigeria (Published)
This study investigated the demographic factors affecting utilization of Information and Communication Technologies by undergraduate students in Nigeria. The factors examined include gender, age, religion, marital status and type of university. The study adopted a survey design approach and the questionnaire was administered on 1000 students across various Nigerian universities. 500 students were from two federal universities while 500 were from two state universities. Data were analysed using descriptive (frequency distribution) and inferential (Chi-square, PPMC and t-test analysis) statistical tool. Findings showed that the male gender utilizes ICTs more than the female gender, students below age 20 use ICT more than those between ages 20 and 30 years, single students utilize ICT more than the married and traditional worshippers use ICT more than Muslims while the Christian use of ICT is the lowest. The groups that use ICT more consequently experience greater benefits in terms of productivity and profit.
