The paper examined the effect of flooding on houses in River Ajilosun drainage basin in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. Data were generated on geomorphological and morphometric variables through direct field measurements involving the use of tape, abney level and a piece of flat board. Questionnaire were also used to generate data on the respondents’ experience and opinion about flooding in the environment and its impact on their houses. Analysis of the data using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods revealed the causes of flooding in River Ajilosun drainage basin to include rapid population growth,chaotic urban development and poor waste disposal and management techniques among others. Some of the effects of flooding in the drainage basin include destruction of household properties, exposure of foundation of houses and risk of dilapidation and structural weakening of houses among others. The paper recommends properly coordinated urban planning, provision of efficient waste disposal and management techniques, effective supervision of house construction and environmental education as some of the measures for controlling adverse effects of flooding on houses in the drainage basin.
