Factors Affecting Effective Delivery of Technical Skills Practical Lessons in The Colleges of Education in Ghana (Published)
Despite the various interventions to ensure that technical colleges of education graduates are well equipped with the requisite practical skills to be able to train students in the basic concept of technical education and training for the technological advancement of the country, it has not been able to transform most students at the basic level of education. The purpose of this study is mainly to assess factors affecting effective delivery of technical skills practical lessons in selected colleges of education in Ghana. A census of the tutor population of 17 was used for the study. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics and results presented in tables. The study found that, most of the facilities for practical work were non-existence, students have little experience on practical work, the factors affecting practical work were practical experience of teachers, teaching experience, age, among others. It was evident that, provision of adequate resources, exposing students to the importance of practical work and organization educative field trips to firms could be used to improve the organization of practical work in the colleges of education.

Performance Evaluation of Skills Acquisition for Self- Reliance among Graduates of Technical Colleges in Cross River State, Nigeria (Published)

Abstract: This study sought to evaluate skills acquisition for self-reliance among graduates of technical colleges in Cross River State, Nigeria. Relevant literatures to the variable of the study was critically examined. Descriptive research design was adopted for this study. A sample of 241graduates was used for the study. The sampling technique adopted for study was accidental and snowball sampling technique. The main instrument used for the collection of data was the questionnaire with reliability coefficient ranging from .84, .63 and 63 and data raised were analyzed using the simple percentage analysis. The results obtained showed a significant positive influence of skills acquisition for self-reliance among graduates of technical colleges in Cross River State, Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that government should reposition all the technical colleges in Cross River State, Nigeria and Products of technical colleges should be regularly evaluated to provide immediate feedback and spot areas that will require modification in order to continue to sustain and promote the programme. Finally, the study suggested that a replication of this study should be carried out again on the variables that were not previously investigated.

Development and Evaluation of Instructional Video for Teaching and Learning Woodwork Technology Psychomotor Skills in Nigerian Universities: Implication for the Production of Competent Graduates (Published)
Woodwork is one of the areas of Technical Education programme at the University level in Nigeria. The objectives of this programme have not been achieved due to the inadequate nature of materials and human resources for implementing its curriculum. In order to address the issue of Technical Education graduates not possessing employable skills, an intervening measure is to develop and evaluate instructional video for teaching and learning Woodwork Technology. The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate Woodwork Technology instructional video. Five (5) research questions guided the study. The population of this study comprised of twenty two (22) heads of units of Building/Woodwork Construction Technology in all the twenty two (22) Universities in Nigeria whose Technical Education programme were accredited as at 2012. The purposive sampling technique was used to select 10 Heads of Units of Building/Woodwork Construction Technology. Primary data were collected using camera and its accessories, and the modified Province of Prince Edwards Island Department of Education DVD/ Video Evaluation form. The data collected was analyzed using frequency count and mean. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the developed instructional video for teaching and learning practical skills in Woodwork Technology at the University level is suitable in terms of its content, instructional design, technical design, and social consideration.

Poverty Reduction through Investment in Technical Education in Akwa Ibom State (Published)
The study determined the opinions of technical teachers about poverty reduction and strategies to be adopted for poverty reduction in Akwa Ibom State. A survey research design was used for the study. Sixty technical teachers were sampled from the population of 131 technical teachers in all the technical colleges in Akwa Ibom State. Poverty Reduction through Investment in Technical Education Questionnaire (PRITEQ) developed by the researchers was used to collect data for the study. The instrument was validated by three experts from University of Uyo and the reliability coefficient of the instrument was .86. Data obtained were analysed using mean and simple percentage. Findings of the study revealed that poverty reduction may occur through investment in technical education. Also, mandatory technical education, siting of industries/skill acquisition centres, adequate funding of poverty reduction programmes and training people for self reliance are the strategies to be adopted for poverty reduction in Akwa Ibom State. It was recommended among others that government and international agencies should fund technical education programme heavily.
