A Narrative Review of Research on Cognitive Processes During the Acquisition of English as a Second Language and A Future Research Agenda (Published)
The domain of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) has evolved through different schools of thought from the 1940s to the modern era. This paper focuses on the cognitive element in SLA. It begins by outlining how the cognitive turn developed in SLA. It then briefly outlines various cognitive approaches to SLA and presents a narrative review of research from the last ten years on the cognitive processes involved in acquiring English as a second language. The paper concludes with a summary and a possible future research agenda on cognitive processes in SLA
