Climate Change and Farm Productivity among Farming Household in Lagos State (Review Completed - Accepted)
This study examined the economic impacts of climate change on farm productivity. A total of 90 farming household was randomly selected and structured questionnaire was employed to elicit information from the respondents. Results of the study indicated that majority of the respondents are educated and aware of climate change mostly in the form of weather fluctuations resulting in unfavourable rainfall that ultimately affects their productivity. Some of them experience crop failure resulting from extreme weather. The results also indicated that the low productivity resulted in poor standard of living as a result of dwindling income and shifting from farming as a means of livelihood to other sources like petty trading. It is thus recommended the government should put in place appropriate policy that would ensure that stock firm climate change can be reduced through appropriate cropping and farming strategies. Government should also introduce to farmers agricultural sensitive technologies and innovations through extension agents that can prevent climate fluctuations
