Man

TOWARDS A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONCEPT “MAN AND HIS ENVIRONMENT” THROUGH AN “INTEGRATED ENVIRONMENT” APPROACH (Published)

“Man and His Environment,” is a topical issue in all discussions on the environment, which itself has been recognized as an important issue in sustainable development. A companion paper to this one on the title “Religion, Man and His Environment” (Fatubarin and Alokan, 2013), discussed the interactions of man with the natural environment. However, in order to have a near comprehensive account of the concept of man in his environment, all the environments, natural, socio-economic, political/governmental, built and spiritual, are considered as components of an integrated environment, in this paper. The paper discuses the diverse environments, their interactions among themselves and the adverse interactions of man in the environments. The paper concludes by noting that the issue of “Man and His Environment,” is too all-embracing, to be given either a physical or socio-economic interpretation alone. It has to be approached comprehensively, as done in this paper, to have a deeper understanding of the concept.
