Do Cleanliness and Location Truly Influence Leisure Guests’ Choice of Hotels? A Hotel Managers’ Perspective (Published)

The main purpose of this paper is to establish a model of leisure guests’ choice of hotels. To be more precise, the present study examined the extent to which cleanliness and location influence leisure guests’ choice of hotels. In the light of this, a study was undertaken from the hotel managers’ perspective analyzing what they believed were the factors influencing guests’ choice of hotels. To achieve the foregoing, this study employed multiple regression analysis to test the formulated hypotheses with the aid of SPSS Version 20.0 software at 5% level of significance. Findings from a census of 84 hotel managers in Awka metropolis, Anambra State, Nigeria using survey questionnaire show that cleanliness and location influence leisure guests’ choice of hotels. More importantly, location has more influence than cleanliness.  In comparison, this finding contradicts previous research executed from a guests’ perspective by Ogbunankwor and associates in 2022 that found cleanliness to have more influence than location. Moreover, the present piece of research is a confirmation that hotel managers do not completely understand their guests. Nevertheless, the study concludes that cleanliness and location truly influence leisure guests’ choice of hotels. Finally, implications for Nigerian and global hotel industry stakeholders are discussed.
