The subject of witchcraft has been of keen interest to many writers of history. Prior to the advancement in scientific knowledge several societies attributed diseases, suffering and disasters to an act of misdemeanour against the deities that govern the affairs of communities from the supernatural realm or to persons who practiced bad medicine or witchcraft. In dealing with the witchcraft situation in several European societies, witches, that is those purported to practice witchcraft were burnt at the sticks. It is imperative to note that various civilisations or societies have handled the question of witchcraft differently in the Past.
