Theoretical Perspectives on the Traditional and Modern: Philosophical Analyses of Syllogisms, Anachronisms and Parachronisms in the Social History of Occidental and African Societies, 1700-1950

Abstract

The paper examined concepts and thought patterns; and discerned the dynamics within and withal human societies. Seemingly and obviously, in retrospect, the anthropological and ethnographic views of writers on the traditional and modern in the 19th and 20th centuries were reviewed. It delineated the principal differences and similarities in their thoughts nexus the ideals and realities that prevailed in their environments and times. Consequently, their views, concepts and patterns were assessed as either having represented progress in the understanding of the traditional and modern or merely added further misconceptions and misrepresentation of analyses to existing ones. It concluded that some of the exposés were possible syllogisms, mere anachronisms and parachronisms. The analytical and comparative methods were used in the writing of this paper.
