Morphological and Word-formation instruction Processes Knowledge of EFL Learners (Published)

This study is set up to investigate the impact of the morphological and word-formation instruction processes on Saudi EFL students’ vocabulary knowledge. The New Vocabulary Level Test (NVLT) and the Morphological Awareness Test (MAT) were used to measure the extent of the words-formations process that can be received by Saudi EFL learners; and their ability to use these words-formations processes in a context appropriately. About two groups control and experimental (each had 20 female participants) from the first level, the descriptive analytical approach was used. The experimental group was taught using explicit word-formation processes theory, whereas the control had no specific paradigm. The results showed that it is beneficial to concentrate on word-formation processes instructions using explicit teaching methods in EFL classrooms to raise students’ morphological awareness and improve their vocabulary knowledge capacity. Therefore, the study revealed that using an explicit teaching method, especially for the Arab EFL learners’ classes can make a difference and should be added to the EFL classroom.

Morphological Operations in Annang (Published)

The study aimed at identifying and examining the various morphological operations that take place in the formation of words in Anaang language. Some chiefs of Anaang and youths who live in the rural areas of Anaang and who understand English were interviewed and their responses recorded. A 1,500 word list, interviews and a set of test questions covering the subject matter, personal contacts and observations as a native speaker of Anaang were used to gather data for the study. The theory of lexical morphology was adopted in the analysis of the data. From the study, two major morphological operations were identified. These are: Affixation and Compounding. In affixation, prefixes, suffixes, and suprafixes were identified. In compounding, noun + noun and noun + adjectives structures were identified. From the findings, the research showed the manner of realisation and morphological characteristics of each of the processes. It also showed various ways of generating new word forms in Anaang. It was recommended that further studies should be carried out in the Anaang language and children as well as youths be encouraged to speak the language to boost scholarship and prevent the extinction of Anaang language.

Foregrounding the Theme of Shallowness in the Hollow Men: A Stylistic Analysis (Published)

This paper aims to analyze The Hollow Men through Stylistic Analysis at the levels of graphology, phonology, morphology and the lexico-syntactic to foreground the hollowness and emptiness of the universe after the traumatic situation of world wars. All language choices used by the poet lead towards the shallowness, despair, vagueness, nothingness and inability of love for the universe/ people. The people are detached from nature, one another, and live in a place which is dead, cactus, and barren of any spiritual presence just like the people of that land as what Singh (2013) and Urquhart (2010) pointed out in their studies.
