The New Partnership for Africa’s Development was launched in Abuja, Nigeria in October, 2001 to solve some problems affecting African continent. NEPAD is the latest in a long line of frameworks intended to place Africa on a path of sustainable growth and development. The picture of Africa in the 21st century has been featured by disheartening challenges of economic underdevelopment, poverty, political instability, violent conflicts and civil wars. The idea of introducing an Indigenous Africa Approach to problems peculiar to Africa came after the socio-political and security realities of the continent had defied several developmental plans which were said to be foreign to Africa or drafted by expert and institutions that failed to appreciate the peculiarities of the continent. It is therefore imperative to appreciate the priority areas of NEPAD, particularly, peace and security and to understand the framework and mechanism put in place by the African leaders to accomplish the task of NEPAD in ensuring peace and security in Africa. NEPAD acknowledged peace and security as a precondition for democracy, good governance and sustainable development. It sets up African Peer Review Mechanism to ensure that any African country that embraced NEPAD framework comply with the standard rule of good governance so as to ensure peace and security in the continent.
