Factors Accounting for Delayed Completion of Theses Among Postgraduate Students of the University of Education, Winneba (Published)

The purpose of this research is to examine the factors accounting for the delay of post-graduate theses completion among students in the University of Education, Winneba. The study adopted a case study design. Semi-structured interview was used to collect data. Documentary evidence from the University were also used. The target population was made up of supervisors of student theses and alumni of the University of Education, Winneba. Eighteen participants constituted the study sample. Purposive and snow ball sampling techniques were used to select supervisors and alumni. The key findings of the research are four-fold; that is student-related-factors, delay in working on corrections suggested by supervisors; supervisors-related factors, supervisors’ workload, administration and supervision; institutional-related factors and financial challenges. The study recommends that post-graduate students are assigned to supervisors within their area of specialisation and at the early stage of enrolment. Also, departmental graduate committees should institute regular thesis seminars by which students can present progress report on specific chapters of the work for effective tracking.

Exploring Graduate Students’ Intrinsic Motivation in Fully Online Courses: A Qualitative Study (Published)

Motivation in general is one of the most important components of the process of learning and teaching in any educational environment, and it can explain the success or failure of student. Therefore, using a qualitative approach, this study aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of intrinsic motivation in fully online courses environment.10 participants participated in depth interviews about their intrinsic motivation in in fully online courses. Findings uncovered a number of factors that are highly related to graduate students’ intrinsic motivation in fully online courses. Findings, implications, limitations and future directions are discussed.

The Study of Education Mechanism and Innovation Cultivation of Graduate Students (Published)

Graduate students are the new force of innovation in China and to improve the quality of graduate students is a popular topic in academia . Currently, there exist some deficiencies in postgraduate education, such as the teaching pattern which values theory more than practice, the dearth of innovative spirit and the absence of innovative capacity. These problems are rooted in unclear studying objectives, the lack of opportunities for practical working experience and the incorrect learning methods, etc. Therefore, in order to cultivate innovative graduate students, it’s vital for us to refine the teaching methods to intrigue graduate students interest in innovation. And graduate students should receive comprehensive training which strengthens their capacity for literature reading and more opportunities for practical experiences.
