Administration of behavior modification as a psychological technique for effective classroom management in teaching and learning of chemistry among senior secondary school students in Zonal Education Quality Assurance, Kankia, Katsina State (Published)

The study titled administration of behavior modification as a psychological technique for effective classroom management in teaching and learning of chemistry among senior secondary school students in Zonal Education Quality Assurance, Kankia,Katsina State. The studyrandomly sampled 120 SS II students from four senior secondary schools in Kankia Zonal Education Quality Assurance. It was quasi-experimental research design consists of two groups, experimental and control groups. The subjects consist of 60 students in each group randomly selected using simple random sampling technique, making a total of 120 students in both groups. The subjects in experimental group classroom were taught concept of chemistry balancing equation usingbehavior modification techniques while the subjects in the control group classroom were taught without behavior modification technique. Chemistry Achievement Test was used as instrument for data collection. Performance of the two groups were compared using post-test mean scores, t-test independent sample at a significant level p=0.05. The finding from the study shows that those students taught using behavior modification techniques performed better than those taught without the use of behavior modification techniques. Also, the study revealed no significant difference between the performance of male and female students taught concept of chemistry balancing equation using behavior modification technique. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were made and these include; chemistry teachers should modify the behavior of their students for optimal performance and teachers should treat all the students equally regardless of their gender.

Marital Status as Correlate of Sexual Harassment Experiences among Athletes in Southern Nigerian Universities (Published)

The study investigated marital status as correlate of sexual harassment experiences among athletes in southern Nigerian universities using survey design. Questionnaire was utilized to collect data from the athletes (N=946). Data were analyzed using percentage and simple regression. It was found that slightly above half of unmarried athletes (51.64%) have experienced gender harassment compared to few athletes who are married (3.11%). Also, higher percentage of unmarried athletes (39.80%) has experienced unwanted sexual attention compared to the married counterparts (1.91%). Moreso, greater percentage of single or unmarried athletes (12.06%) have experienced sexual coercion compared to a very insignificant percentage of married athletes (0.47%). Marital status had significant relationship with gender harassment; unwanted sexual attention, and sexual coercion experiences of southern Nigerian universities athletes. It was recommended that athletes especially those who are single or unmarried should be protected of sexual harassment by government through strong anti-harassment laws and policies.

Factors Affecting the Inculcation of Moral Behaviour in Youths within Families in Ohaozara Local Government Area Ebonyi State (Published)

The study focused on the factors affecting the inculcation of moral behaviour in youths within families in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The objectives of the study focused on ascertaining how socio-economic factors, modern technology, environment and peer group influence affect the inculcation of moral behaviours in youths in Ohaozara Local Government Area. Four research questions guided the study. Two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using chi-square. The area of the study was Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state. The population of the study was made up of nine thousand, nine hundred and eight parents. The sample size of the study was two hundred and fifty parents drawn randomly from the three communities in Ohaozara Local Government Area. Questionnaire was used for data collection. The mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions.  Findings of the study revealed that moral decadence affects students’ academic performance. It also revealed that good guidance and counseling are good strategies for restoring morality among youths within families. The following recommendations were made; 1. Parents should check the environment in which they raise their children as environment affects the moral behaviour of youths. 2. There should be adequate and proper home training for children in the society. 3. The youths’ access to modern technology should be monitored by parents.
